It's simple the best of the First Certificate practice!!!

I liked a lot the content of First Certificate Trainer because there's some wonderful tips about how to tackle the test, and be succesful. In comparison with others editions it's quite better, in the way you have commentaries in two sample tests that is absolutly amazing! These attributes met my expectations, mainly, due to I didn't know how to do some test's parts, like the writings and speakings. Everybody who wants to have a definitive preparation for FCE should buy this book!

Ranked #1 in his medical school class, Dr. Pestana has a doctorate in surgery from the University of Minnesota and did a 5-year surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic.�He�has received over 40 teaching awards and prizes for teaching excellence.�In the early 1990s he was a�member of the Comprehensive Part II Committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners that designed what is now the clinical component of the USMLE Step 2 exam.�Dr.�Pestana�is also the author of Fluids and Electrolytes in the Surgical Patient, which has been translated into Spanish, Italian, and Greek.

Only used this book

I decided to be the guinea pig and rely solely on this book and UW questions (on surgery only). In other words, because I was so busy and exhausted from my surgery rotation, I did not use FA, NMS, CF or any other book. It was almost 8 months since I had IM and did not do great on that shelf. I read this book 4x and made sure I could squeeze out as much info as I could from it. I ended up getting 80% on the shelf. If you have more time, get this book and learn it well but supplement high yield parts that you are weak in with more sources. If you feel like you have no time or energy left to study after your 16 hour surgery days, using this book alone (and doing UW questions) will 100% guarantee that you pass and possibly honor the shelf.

Essential for Surgery Shelf

If you are an MS-III studying for the surgery shelf I cannot recommend this book enough. I, like most, had heard of the 70 page Pestana pdf floating around and used that for the first 5 weeks of my rotation. Had I known sooner about this expanded version I would have made the switch ages ago. It is a very easy read written in a similar tone Dr. Pestana's surgery review. He distills only high-yield facts and adds many clinical pearls. Surgical Recall is an excellent resource for on the wards and OR pimping but this text is invaluable because it cuts through the additional low-yield nonsense that Lawrence provides and gives you what you need for the test. Many times during the shelf I wanted to mentally caress Dr. Pestana's insane eyesbrows as the questions seemed as if they had been taken right out of the book. The surgical clerkship can be a hectic time with a seemingly endless time crunch but with this resource you should be more than ready to ace the shelf.

It's a quick read for downtime during your surgery rotation, but my attending asked questions far beyond the basic "high yield" facts in this book. It's a good quick review or even a pre-read, but not complete on its own.

As a teacher she has taught courses for practitioners ranging from administrative personnel through the clinical sciences to medical assistants and health professionals at the college level. As an administrator she brought her medical and educational knowledge together as chairperson of a growing medical assistant program in New England, where she was involved in the development, evolution, and opening of several medical assisting programs. Now she is semi-retired and lives in Florida.

Terrific book!

This was an excellent companion to our children's unit on Lewis and Clark. The book was very engaging and the illustrations were truly beautiful. It provided our children with an informative yet highly enjoyable account of the Lewis and Clark expedition. The book was written from the perspective of Seaman, Lewis's dog, and this allowed for an interesting view of the events that occurred on the expedition. My children also enjoyed using the attached Seaman bookmarker. This was a very cute addition to a well-written and delightful book.

I used this book with my homeschool curriculum and my children loved it, the pictures are great.the content of this book helps to bring everyone for the journey coming from the eyes of such a lovable Newfoundland.

Review of Seaman's Journal

Seaman is a Newfoundland dog from Pennsylvania. He is large, furry and protective by nature. Seaman's Journal: On the Trail with Lewis and Clark by Patricia Reeder Eubank (Ideals, 2002) is the account of a very special dog who was chosen to accompany Lewis and Clark on their 1804 journey to find a route to the Pacific Ocean. Early on in the tale, Seaman proudly states, "I am in charge of Lewis." He takes his duty seriously, but makes time to play with Native American children, chase prairie dogs and squirrels, and journel frequently. His pawprint signature at the bottom of each page is a great touch. Seaman's adventure is very educational. He meets many Native American tribes, including the Sioux, who eat dogs. The inviting watercolor pictures depict Seaman's activities, and there are relevant artifacts around the border of each page, such as a close-up of a Sioux chief in feather headdress, a tomahawk and an American flag. The book is so much fun, you'll forget that you're learning!

This book was for a graduate course I took on instructional design. It was an incredibly boring read. I thought the information seemed out-dated as compared to other materials I have read for other courses. I wouldn't buy it just for myself.
