Though she has no formal training in nutrition, Michaels asserts that most health problems are caused by metabolic hormonal imbalances; charging forward without any cited sources, Michaels includes a list of "amazing health benefits" with each recipe (Roast Herbed Turkey Breast with Orange-Cranberry Sauce, for example, is meant to boost metabolism and immunity, improve mood and digestion, fight cancer, and aid the heart). Dogma and posturing aside, these tasty, healthy recipes are likely to please. Michaels does her best to avoid esoteric ingredients, and dishes like Coconut-Curry Steamed Mussels and Grilled Skirt Steak with Chimichurri Sauce would be right at home in a traditional cookbook. Others, like Watermelon Soup with Blackberries and Jicama, or Ginger Shrimp Rolls with Green Papaya Slaw, won't make dieters feel like they're settling. Started to browse recipes but ended up reading cover to cover!

I am extremely impressed! Jillian is not known for cooking, but it is evident that she consulted & collaborated with the right people to introduce a way of eating that is healthy AND completely do-able for a longterm lifestyle change.

I have many cookbooks...those that teach (e.g. Joy of Cooking etc), those with great photos, those from specific chefs and/or restaurants, those from particular regions or ethnic areas, those that limit something (like low salt or diabetic), those that promote a product (add a can of this to make that), those that only use fresh foods & organic products, those that are designed for quick meals or multiple meals, those that expand on a particular eating trend...get the picture? Most of my cookbooks have something in common: I purchased them for a few recipes that grabbed my attention. Each cookbook comes off the shelf infrequently and typically go back up on the shelf when I find that I don't have the ingredients or the time needed. Even the "new way of eating" or "diet" cookbooks are not sustainable, as the attempt to make daily food "special" has made it impractical or undesireable for weekly menus. Very few of these other (best-selling) cookbooks has entered my life more than a few times per year.

Master Your Metabolism Cookbook is different. After receiving, I opened it just to browse through the recipes, and ended up reading it cover to cover like a novel. HAVE YOU EVER READ A COOKBOOK COVER TO COVER IN ONE SITTING? There is so much great information! The design is really good--things are easy to find. The health benefits of each recipe are listed, along with calorie/nutrient info. You can refresh your memory with the related nutrition facts & explanations as you prepare your meal.

This has a nice blend of recipes & basics--it assumes nothing (e.g.assuming everyone knows how to prepare quinoa). The food is simple but certainly NOT bland. There is alot of variety for various tastes. You don't have to purchase ingredients that you will not use later. This book is full of healthy staple food with excellent flavor--meals that you will enjoy making and eating week after week. These foods are great basics to feed to families, and teach teenagers how to eat on a regular basis. There is no sense of deprivation. Many recipes have the potential to become a family favorite.

Yes, you could get much (not all) of this information from other sources, but WHY would you WANT TO?? It is a waste of time & money to find/purchase a large selection of resources when Jillian has already done the work for you. Jillian has also synthesized the information & discarded the out-of-date old-school beliefs. I HAVE the other books, that I don't need anymore.

Do yourself and your family a favor. Get Jillian Michaels' Master Your Metabolism Cookbook, and keep it close at hand. Don't buy the other books from me on Ebay ;>)

I read Master Your Metabolism and it changed everything for me, was exactly the information I needed to finally lose weight and get healthy. This cookbook was on my IMMEDIATE ORDER list as soon as I found out it was being released, and it did not disappoint. FANTASTIC yummy gourmet healthy recipes that help me stay on track and still eat really good food! I could do this forever! I've lost 22 pounds in 2 1/2 months and I'm still going, feeling like I could eat this way for the rest of my life.

Good, basic recipes - great for meal prepping

This cookbook is ok. The recipes are good. You do have to venture out of your regular list for ingredients but they aren't anything you can't find at a regular store. I will say I personally like the 30 Day Shred cookbook better, but I also think that one has more complicated recipes. This one is a great, basic cookbook to get you on track with your eating habits. I love all things Jillian Michael and I'd say this is more of a beginners guide to eating healthy. The meals also work well for meal prepping.

has a lot of misc information

i ordered this because it is a favorite book of a friend of mine. apparently, ellen white covers so many topics in it, for instance, how people should interact with each other within a congregation when one of the members is doing something inappropriate. my girlfriend seems to think that ellen white hit the nail on the head and gives very good advice. i ordered the book for myself to use as a reference, and haven't used it yet to have an opinion of my own to share.

Not as engaging as her other work

I love many of Ms Dohner's books, but wasn't captivated by this one at all. In fact, as I read it I felt sure I'd read it before - is this a re-release? The plot and characters seemed eerily familiar.

Overall, I found it to be fairly bland, as the characters and their story were not nearly as engaging as many of her other books. My favorite books by Ms Dohner have strong heroines, and "Brandi" just didn't cut it for me (perhaps because the name alone was giving me flashbacks to Junior High School in the 80's). I am happy to support Ms Dohner and read anything she publishes, but this one was a miss for me.

Great new series!

This has a brutal beginning but goes way uphill from there. Brandi is so wonderfully feisty and has great comebacks, especially considering she is a plain ole human and has to hold own with a bunch of big bad ass wolves. But that's ok, she does and says stuff they don't expect. I love Jason. From the moment he sees her (and saves her from three murderous feral wolves) he wants to take care of her and then just plain wants her. You'll have to get the book to find out how it all ends but if you are into werewolves then you will love this. I would love to see the co-Alphas have a feisty human woman of their own since they both have been heartbroken. One who could handle them both. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to the rest of this series. Enjoy!

I have always enjoyed reading this author and this book is no different. When a terrible terrible kidnapping results in Brandi learning werewolves exist by them chasing her through the woods in the ultimate game of tag with teeth. She is rescued by a different type of werewolf. One that wants to play tag for keeps.

The book begins a touch scary and continues to build with the discovery of trust between two people who could not be more different. An interesting premise with colorful characters and lots of openings for future characters. I hope this will be a continuing series to see what happened nd will happen to the pack and their co-alphas and let's not forget the lovely barkeep. I think there is a great story waiting to be told.

About the Author

Mike J.�Stabler is�Senior Research Fellow at the�University of Reading; his principal research has been on the environmental impacts of economic activity focusing on the tourism sector, published in journals and books. He was joint author of the original edition of this book.

Andreas Papatheodorou is Assistant Professor at the University of the Aegean, Greece, and Honorary Research Fellow at the Nottingham University Business School, UK. His tourism research focuses on competition, pricing and corporate strategy in air transport, cruising and travel distribution and has been published in international academic journals.

Prior to her death in 2006, Professor M.�Thea Sinclair was Director of the Tourism and Travel Research Institute (TTRI) in the Business School of the University of Nottingham.

About the Author
Linda Skogrand is an assistant professor and family life extension specialist at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. She began her professional career as a social worker in the inner-city of St. Louis, Missouri, and throughout her career has enjoyed a balance between academic institutions and social service organizations. Her current position as an extension specialist allows her to take knowledge and research findings and make them available to people in communities in Utah and throughout the nation.

Skogrand’s social service experience includes providing HIV/AIDS education programs for street kids, people in prison, and gang members, and overseeing the design of an AIDS house for the Latino population. She has also taught family courses at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, for 17 years and was adjunct faculty at the University of Minnesota for several years.

She has published articles focusing on values in parent education, the lives of families who have experienced Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, transcendence of traumatic childhoods, spirituality, strong Latino marriages, and debt and marriage. She has co-authored several books including Surviving and Transcending a Traumatic Childhood: The Dark Thread, Coping with Sudden Infant Death, and Sudden Infant Death: Enduring the Loss. . Her current research focuses on strong marriages in the Latino and American Indian cultures and she is currently conducting a national study of what makes “great” marriages with John DeFrain.

Skogrand has been married to her high school sweetheart, Steven Gilbertson, for the past seven years and resides in Logan, Utah. She has three adult children, Aaron, Jennifer, and Sara. Her children’s multiracial heritage has taught her much about diversity.

John DeFrain is an extension professor of family and community development at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has focused his professional energy for the past 35 years in better understanding how families learn to live happily together.

He cofounded the National and International Symposium on Building Family Strengths, which grew into a consortium of groups organizing 35 allied conferences in the United States and around the world since 1978. Recent gatherings have been held in Australia, China, Mexico, and Korea, and upcoming conferences are planned for southern Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and the United States. His research with a team of investigators around the world has collected data on family strengths from 21,000 family members in 27 countries.

DeFrain has served as consultant to courts, universities, churches, agencies, and individual families on marriage, parenting, grief, divorce, and child custody issues. He recently received the Outstanding New Extension Family Specialist Award, and the MISS Foundation Phoenix Award for service to bereaved parents who have lost children. He has coauthored more than 60 professional articles on family issues and 18 books, including Secrets of Strong Families; Sudden Infant Death: Enduring the Loss; Stillborn: The Invisible Death; On Our Own: A Single Parent’s Survival Guide; Building Relationships; and Parents in Contemporary America: A Sympathetic View. His most recent books are: The Family Strengths Perspective: Strong Families Around the World; The Dark Thread: Surviving and Transcending a Traumatic Childhood; and Creating Strong Marriages and Families: A Strengths-Based Activity Book.

He and his wife and best friend, Nikki DeFrain, M.S., have three grown daughters connected to two sons-in-law and a great boyfriend-in-law, and a grandson. Nikki was especially important in the development and writing of this textbook, offering support in innumerable areas of the project and expertise in her own areas of study. The DeFrains are very interested in understanding family strengths and challenges from a global perspective, and have traveled and studied family relationships in 17 countries.

David Olson is professor emeritus of family social science at the University of Minnesota, where he has been for more than 25 years. He is founder and president of Life Innovations. He is a past president of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) and a past president of the Upper Midwest Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (UMAMFT).

He is a fellow and clinical member of the American Association for Marital and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and a fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA). Olson is also a member of the editorial boards of six family journals. He has received numerous awards, including the Distinguished Contribution to Family Therapy Research Award from both AAMFT and the American Family Therapy Association (AFTA).

Olson has written or edited more than 20 books, including Empowering Couples, Building Relationships, Families: What Makes Them Work, Circumplex Model, Power in Families, Treating Relationships, and 10 volumes of the Inventory of Marriage and Family Literature. He has published more than 100 articles with the theme of bridging family research, theory, and practice.

Olson and his colleagues at the University of Minnesota have developed the Circumplex Model of Marital and Family Systems and a variety of couple and family assessment tools, including PREPARE, ENRICH, FACES, PAIR, and AWARE.

He is happily married to Karen Olson, who has provided companionship and support throughout this and numerous other projects. They have three terrific children (Hans, Amy, and Chris), a great son-in-law (Daniel), and five wonderful grandchildren (Adrienne, Evan, Chelsea, Alex, and Ava). Olson has been blessed with a fun-loving and caring family that continues to sustain and support him.

A very average book

I bought this book for a class at a university. It was an easy read and easy to understand, but not overly interesting. It is a typical sociology book. Most people who buy this book will be students required to purchase it for class. However, if you are the rare person considering this book as an addition to your library, I suggest rethinking your decision. I suspect that the people who find this subject matter interesting already know everything in the book. It is written on a very basic level.

If you are looking for a book to improve your marriage, look elsewhere. This book offers theoretical ways to have a successful relationship, but like too many sociology books it has little practical relevance. For example, this book teaches that a successful relationship will have optimal balances of cohesion, flexibility and communication. While that principal is probably correct the application is vague.

too much stats

I purchased this book as a requirement for my online family class. I personally felt that this book was difficult for me to understand because it contained too much statistics and percentages. I like books that are easy to read and understand. I feel that the authors put more "percentages" in this book than necessary. To top that off, my instructor had "closed-book" tests that contained questions that asked for "what percent of so and so" I normally don't write reviews but I just wanted to give any college students needing this book for their class a heads up. I liked this book for its content but I disliked this book due to the overuse of statistics in it. That is why I gave it two stars.

If any of Mills's eighteen-man sniper platoon had thought that the people of Al Amarah were going to welcome them with open arms, they were rapidly forced to reconsider. For the next six months, isolated, besieged and under constant fire, the battalion refused to give an inch.

A fantastically well written first hand account!

This is a fantastic book! I've read hundreds of war stories and this ranks near the top of the list, rivaling "Lone Survivor" as one of the best in recent memory. Not only is this a nail-biting true story; but it's an extremely well written one. Even the tid bits about their lives between battles is fun to read, especially the enlisted mans humor combined with British slang that's absolutely hilarious. Finally, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the heroics of our British allies in Iraq. There's only one thing our media likes to avoid more than the heroics of our soldiers, and that's the heroics of our allies who undermine the theme that the world is lined up against us. My compliments and thanks to the author for his great book and for his service in our common cause. Sniper One: On Scope and Under Siege with a Sniper Team in Iraq

great read . the author tells a riveting story about how the sniper is taught and their tactics as well as pulling the reader into a story of al amarah and the firefight of all engagements.describing the men who were with him was moving. i was very interested in them and their outcome. thank you dan mills for writig this book.

I haven't blown through a book more quickly in years. It's non-stop action from start to finish and gives a fascinating look into life on the front lines in Iraq. Definitely gives a new appreciation for what those soldiers have to endure for our freedom. Highly recommended!
